Voting in Bexar County on Election Day: What to know before you go

Posted

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and Bexar County voters can cast ballots at any Election Day vote center in the county. Here is what to know before you go.

When polls are open

Polls in Texas are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. Anyone in line when the polls close is allowed to vote.

Where to vote

Bexar County residents can visit any polling location to cast a vote on Election Day.

  • Find a site: The county’s Election Day map and list of vote centers are at bexar.org/ElectionDayInfo.
  • Check wait times: Bexar County introduced a wait-times map in October to help voters compare polling locations.

What to bring

Voters must bring one of seven acceptable forms of photo ID to vote in person. The accepted forms include:

  • Texas Driver License
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate
  • Texas Personal Identification Card
  • Texas Handgun License
  • United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph
  • United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
  • United States Passport

Most IDs can be expired for up to four years and still be accepted, and voters 70 or older can use photo ID that expired longer ago.

If you don’t have your ID, you may vote provisionally and have six days to show an acceptable photo ID to the county voter registrar. The full list of accepted IDs is at votetexas.gov.

If you haven’t registered or you’ve moved

The last day to register for this election was Oct. 5. Voters on the suspense list can still vote and may confirm or update their address by completing a statement of residence when they check in. Check your registration status and see your personal sample ballot through the Texas Secretary of State’s site or the Bexar County Elections Department.

If you have a mail ballot

The regular deadline for a mail ballot to arrive is 7 p.m. on Election Day, though some ballots postmarked by 7 p.m. may arrive by 5 p.m. Nov. 4 and still count.

Live coverage

KSAT anchors Myra Arthur and Ernie Zuniga will be live on election night Tuesday covering key midterm races including U.S. Senate, several Texas congressional districts, the Texas gubernatorial race, and races for Bexar County judge and district attorney.

The livestream will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 on KSAT Plus and KSAT’s YouTube channel, leading up to the Nightbeat on KSAT 12 and streaming on KSAT Plus.
